The Computer Architecture Department (http://www.ac.upc.es) ------------------------------------

The Computer Architecture Department (DAC) is one of the 38 departments of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. It is located in Barcelona and it teaches a number of courses on computer structure and organization, computer architecture, operating systems, computer networks, computer evaluation and VLSI design. The DAC is involved in the curricula of four centers in the UPC. The DAC offers also a Graduate Program where students can be enroled to pursue their Ph. D.

At the UPC, the research activities are organizated through the research lines. They are groups of people with common interest in a technical or scientific area. In the DAC there are currently four research lines:

The activities related to COOPERNET will be hosted by the High Performance Computing research group.

This research group is currently composed of 21 Ph. D. members and and 26 Ph. D. students. They research focus on computer architecture and programming tools for high-performce computers. The main topics that have been the target of recent investigations in the group are:

The group has participated in more than 15 international projects in the last 10 years related to these topics. Most of these projects have been funded by ESPRIT. Besides, it has organized 7 international conferences and will host the forthcomming ISCA conference.
