XML is the recently adopted W3C standard intended to be the universal Web data exchange format, bringing data portability across applications. It is predicted to become the world's commercial hub for all kinds of businesses. XML is already having a strong impact on Web-related technologies including Web servers, search engines, application servers and database servers. This seminar will introduce XML and discuss its impact on E-commerce and Intranet applications. It will cover in some details XML's semi-structured data model, presentation language (XSL), query language (XQL), schema languages (DTD and XML-Schema) and distributed programming through XML (with Java, RPC and transactions). It will also review the major XML products available on the market, in particular XML servers (BizTalk, eXcelon, Tamino, BlueStone), application servers (WebLogic, OAS, WebSphere, SilverStream, ...) and database servers (Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, Informix, ..). This seminar is intended for a general audience of students, researchers and IT professionnals. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Short biography of Dr. Patrick Valduriez Patrick Valduriez received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Paris 6 in 1981.
