Vitor Silva Souza, PhD from PESC / COPPE / UFRJ, received the award for Best Doctoral Thesis at the XXXIV Brazilian Database Symposium (SBBD). Vitor was supervised by Prof. Marta Mattoso, from PESC's Data and Knowledge Engineering area, and co-supervised by Daniel de Oliveira (from UFF) and Patrick Valduriez (from INRIA).

The XXXIV SBBD Database Dissertation and Thesis Contest (CTDBD) took place in October 2019, where Vitor presented the results of his thesis entitled "Runtime Data Flow Analysis in Scientific Application", defended at PESC in June 2018. The CTDBD evaluates the PhD theses in the Database area from those completed, defended and approved in 2017 and 2018. The competing theses in this edition of CTDBD were evaluated according to the scientific and technological results generated by the thesis, as well as for its potential impact on society and the state of the art in the area of Computing.

Congratulations to Vitor and PESC!
