Palestra: Sara Alouf (Inria) - CANCELADA
Sexta-feira, 09 Dezembro 2022, 10:00 - 12:00

Analyzing Count-Min Sketch with Conservative Updates

Count-Min Sketch with Conservative Updates (CMS-CU) is a popular algorithm to approximately count items' appearances in a data stream. Despite CMS-CU's widespread adoption, the theoretical analysis of its performance is still wanting because of its inherent difficulty. In this presentation, we propose a novel approach to study CMS-CU and derive new upper bounds on both the expected value and the CCDF of the estimation error under an i.i.d. request process. Our formulas can be successfully employed to derive improved estimates for the precision of heavy-hitter detection methods and improved configuration rules for CMS-CU. The bounds are evaluated both on synthetic and real traces.

Bio resumida:
I am an Associate Researcher at Inria and vice-head of the Network Engineering and Operations group. Prior to joining Inria in March 2004, I held a post-doctoral position at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, within the Optimization of Business Processes group. I received my Habilitation in 2017 from the Université Côte d'Azur, my Ph.D. and M.Sc. from the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis in 2002 and 1999, respectively. I hold an Electrical and Electronics Engineering Degree from the Lebanese University, obtained in 1998. While at Inria, I have been involved in the common labs between Inria and Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia) and between Inria and Alstom Transport. I have co-authored three patents. I am in the board of directors of ACM Sigmetrics (July 2019 - June 2023) and serve/served in the technical program committees of ACM Sigmetrics and MobiHoc, Performance, IEEE Infocom and Globecom, ITC, Valuetools, and WIOPT. I was the general co-chair and treasurer of the ACM Sigmetrics/IFIP Performance 2016 conference. I am a member of the ACM and ACM Sigmetrics and serve as Area Editor for Elsevier Computer Communications. My research interests include stochastic modeling and performance evaluation of communication networks.
