The French Ministry of Education awarded Kathia Marçal de Oliveira (a doctorate from PESC)
The Profa. Kathia Marçal de Oliveira was named “Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques” by the French Ministry of Education.
Kathia Marçal Oliveira completed a master's degree (see her dissertation here) and doctorate (see her thesis here) at PESC/COPPE/UFRJ. After a period at the Catholic University of Brasília, she moved to France, where she is currently a full professor at the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France.
The distinction was due to the services provided to national education during her academic career at the University Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), where she has been a professor since 2009.
Kathia says it is a great honor to receive this distinction from the French Ministry of Education, highlighting the fact that she is Brazilian and has all academic training in Brazil, in public institutions, including, in addition to PESC, graduation from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA).
Following the same line of recognition as the National Order of Scientific Merit in Brazil, the Order of Academic Palms is the oldest non-military French decoration instituted in 1808 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Since 1866, this distinction has been extended to non-teaching staff who have rendered exceptional service to education. Appointments and promotions are made by decree of the Prime Minister of France, based on the recommendation of the Minister of Education. Kathia was appointed by decree on July 13th of this year, and the award was made on December 12th.
During his period in France, he continued to collaborate with Brazil as a keynote speaker at Conferences, participating in collaborative research projects, working to strengthen collaboration between UPHF and Brazilian universities, including a co-tutorship doctorate agreement with COPPE/ UFRJ, and receiving PESC professors as visitors and Brazilian students for their doctorate. She was also co-supervisor of theses and dissertations at PESC in collaboration with her former advisors. See some of his activities at PESC by clicking here.
